Sugar Sunday!

The spark that started the fire.

I have never been allergic to anything consumable in my life. Though I’ve always been allergic to perfume and scented body products. So imagine my surprise when I ate this delicious Kinder Egg look-a-like treat.

My lips swelled up like someone decked me in the mouth and nausia and headaches soon followed.

It turns out, after it happened 2 more times sans chocolate, but with other consistant factors, that I am allergic to ibuprofen. No idea why or how, but after 25 years of taking it I am now allergic…. wtf?

But I digress.

They are called Futura Choco Eggs, and while they look exactly like their Kinder counterpart, yellow capsule and all, they are not.

These guys. Contained Pokémon toys, which is what drew me to them in the first place as I am ever in love with Pokemon. The chocolate was okay, no where near the quality of Kinder, but still edible.

The only sad thing to come out of this, aside from my sudden allergy, is the fact that I threw away 4 eggs worth of chocolate…..

I know I’ve posted these pictures before… buuuuuut what the hey… lol

Toll Roads

So, today Mr. A and I took our first solo trip on the Japanese toll roads. We have only ever been on them when out with friends and only recently drove on it, but with someone who knew where they were going.

It was an interesting experience, and my anxiety was pretty high on the way to out destination, but pretty normal on the way home.

The toll road is called Daini Michtoku Toll Rd. And is much like the Autoban, as far as speed limits, from what I remember. And it’s also exactly like American high ways, aside from the tolls. From what I understand you get on, get a ticket, get off and pay for the distance you drive. If it’s a super short distance (like from Misawa to the Shimodamoichi exit) you don’t pay. But we did on the way home.

The toll road price varies by distance, some aquaintences drove to and from Tokyo and they said it cost them roughly $160 round trip. I’m assuming the tolls goes to repairs due to earthquakes and cold.

But anyway, it was our first solo trip on it. Pretty easy to be honest!

And pictures from Aeon mall in Shimoda ^^

Sorry there was no Sugar Sunday last weekend, I was super sick, but there will be on this weekend!

More Allergies…

So today I had another allergic reaction to nothing at all. My parents convinced me to go to the doc, so yeah…

My lips instantaneously swelled up again, no idea why. First I thought it was the chocolate, but I guess it wasn’t.

There were no appointments at family health, so I had to go to the UCC, sort of an Urgent Care facility. After explaining this incident, the previous one and any other allergies I have they  decided to give me a Benadryl IV.

The Captain that originally saw me sent in an Airman 1st Class and a Senior Airman (A1C and SrA respectively) to give it to me. Both are low ranks, E3 and E4, both were still training… I knew I was in for trouble.

I hate needles to begin with, the skin piercing makes me nauseous. So I told the A1C that he had one chance, and that he had a lot to live up to since my dad was a nurse in the Army and could stick even the most troublesome veins. I think I might have made him nervous, because he lost it. My vein collapsed on him and he couldn’t get it back! So he got another Captain. She asked if there was a history in my family with then being hard to stick, and I told her my mom was and that my dad was the only person who could ever find her veins. And after the Captain finally found one she revealed to me that I have small veins too, like my mother. But she got out on the first try. Which was good.

After the needle was in she told me she had to push done saline through to make sure it was good and that it would taste salty. I always thought that was a myth, but sure enough I got this weird salt watery taste in my mouth and started laughing! My husband thought it was rather funny, and the Captain thought my reaction was amusing. Then the Benadryl went in, I sat back, and waited.

Then the first Captain came back in, he seemed surprised that the swelling in my lips hadn’t gone down and advised me to see an allergy specialist and possibly a neurologist since the swelling came before or after a bad headache both times.

Needless to say it was an eventful day, and the Benadryl didn’t make me drowsy. Which was the weirdest part…

Sugar Sunday!

So today I have these apple omelettes! Super cute, chocolate heart covered sponge cakes folded around a cream and apple jelly filling!

One of my favorite treats from the fish market in Hachinohe!

There’s not much to say about them other than that they are very yummy and super sweet. So sweet that I can’t have more than one in a single sitting!

They remind me of the Swiss Rolls I used to peel apart when I was younger! :p

Home Wrecking Game

After watching his favorite lets-play channel, Game Grumps, on YouTube the past few days my husband thought it would be a smashing idea if we bought Monopoly. Danny and Erin, the hosts of Game Grumps, played the Wii version and for some reason it made him want to bring this home wrecking game into our house. This board game, simple as it may seem, has single-handedly ruined millions of families…. probably…. either way it causes lots of animosity amongst it’s players……..

MonopolyIt started innocently enough, about half way through all the properties were bought and we were both doing well, had lots of cash in our coffers….

The high point of the game

The high point of the game

Then I got tired…. it was close to my bedtime. And on top of that he had bought a hotel on Boardwalk around 11:30p….. aaaaaaaaaand I landed on it…. $2,000… and it was too much work in my state of tiredness and soreness from sitting on the floor to do the math to mortgage my properties…. So after 4 hours of playing, I folded. Because screw math when you’re half asleep.
